I've Been Published....Sort Of

Several months ago REAL SIMPLE Magazine asked what book turned you into a reader.  I knew right away how to respond to that question, so I sent in my answer....and forgot about it.  Until.....I was catching up on my magazine reading and came across the July issue of REAL SIMPLE (I know I am way behind in my magazine reading.) This jumped out of the page at me....

That post was by me.  Now, I know I was a reader before I read Judy Blume's books.  I have numerous books that I remember reading over and over as a kid.  I should do a post about my favorite book from my childhood.  Anyway....I remember getting this set of Judy Blume books as a gift, from my sister, LeAnn and her husband Ken in 1982.  I was 11.  First, I read ARE YOU THERE GOD? IT'S ME, MARGARET and I think I read it all in one day.  It was exactly what I needed to hear and seemed like the author knew just what I was thinking.  After that I moved on to BLUBBER, TALES OF A FOURTH GRADE NOTHING, and the rest of her books.  Blume quickly became my favorite author. I still have my boxed set and can't wait to share these with our daughter.

What book turned you into a reader?
For some it may have been HARRY POTTER or maybe silly AMELIA BEDELIA, or even Matt Christopher's series of sports books.  Maybe you didn't like reading until you were an adult.  Whatever it was that turned you on to reading, find that author's email and send them a note thanking them.  I did.  You may not get a response, but I bet your note will make the author feel appreciated, even if it is 30 years later.

I loved Judy Blume! But the books that really shaped my childhood were the Laura Ingalls Wilder books and anything by Louisa May Alcott.

My son has started reading the Little House books and his comment was, "Wow! I think life is much easier now..."

Glad to see you!

It's one of my favorites that I saved for my daughter too!
