On September 26, 1998, Nick Dennen was a typical college student athlete. He was living his dream playing football for the University of Minnesota Duluth and life was good.  That night he attended a party, but much of what happened in the early hours of September 27, 2015, is a mystery. What Nick does know is that he fell off a cliff into a creek. After nearly drowning and suffering from head injuries due to the fall, Nick was diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury (TBI). Life would never be the same for Nick or his family.

Doctors told Nick's family he may never recover and if he did, a full recovery would be impossible. What happened over the next two years was nothing short of a miracle thanks to Nick's faith in God, his hard work, and positive support and love from his family. 23, I LOVE YOU TOO isn't a story about his accident, but a story about how Nick has changed because of his accident. Dennen believed in himself and overcame the odds. His book is full of inspiration to empower anyone to overcome the odds. Dennen shares how this accident allowed him to be a better person.

Dennen inserts much wisdom and life lessons among his retelling of the accident and his recovery. Because there are various stories about how the accident happened, for many years, Dennen was bitter towards those who may have contributed to the accident, including himself. He was ashamed at how he let his family down and caused them undue pain and hardships.  As different people come into Dennen's life, he starts to realize that in order to heal, he must first change his attitude, allow for forgiveness, and begin to heal from the inside before he can heal on the outside. He was so focused on his physical limitations and being angry, he couldn't begin to really heal.

Dennen's Christian faith contributed in a large way to his healing and he frequently mentions Scripture passages that were important to him during the healing process. He also quotes from several authors including Napoleon Hill, Nelson Mandela, John C Maxwell and Dr. Phil among many others. The lessons he gained from healing his brain, his body, and his heart are ones all of us can learn from.

Recovering from a TBI is a life-long journey. But, for Nick Dennen, he has certainly overcome great odds that were against him. Through writing this book, he has shown that with determination, support, faith, hope and love anyone can beat the odds and realize that the life you have ahead of you is full of possibilities.

A portion of the proceeds from this book will benefit research for traumatic brain injury.
