Children's Book Review: Emily the Astronaut: The Space Case By Colette Omans Nicoletta

Fictional Nonfiction

This is one of those great children's books that tells a fictional story while giving the reader nonfictional information about a topic. In this case, Emily dreams of being an astronaut and being the first girl to visit the moon. Even though her dad makes fun and says the moon is made of cheese, Emily is determined to find out the truth about the moon and what it takes to travel to space.

Emily and her family travel to Florida to visit NASA and there Emily learns everything she needs to know about how she can get to the moon someday.  With facts, photography combined with illustrations, and a girl with a dream, young readers will become excited about space. Children are encouraged to have a dream and then find out what it will take to achieve it and I have no doubt Emily will make her dream come true.
