Don't Let a Typo Stop You from Love - Grammarly

Eighteen years ago, I was chatting with this man I had never met on AOL Instant Message. We lived in the same city and had started chatting through AIM one afternoon. Keep in mind this is something I had never done before, but something led me to say "Hello" back. We are closing in on 17 years of marriage and I have never regretted saying "Hello".  This was way before online dating was popular. In fact, I usually lied when people asked how I met my now husband because it was embarrassing to say we met "online". Dating websites are extremely popular and many have found love through websites that match up your interests and personalities with someone else.

I thought this fun infographic from GRAMMARLY would be interesting to some of you this Valentine's Weekend. If you are looking to set up a dating profile, there are some good tips for how to answer questions and describe yourself below. I would have to agree with the finding that women were turned off by men who used incorrect spelling in their profiles. That would be a turn-off for me as well!

Grammarly reviewed 10,000 eHarmony male/female matches generated by eHarmony’s matching algorithm. So many marriage advice books come from one couple writing the book based on their experiences, their mishaps, and their faith.  But, it's just their perspective. This one gathers advice from couples and individuals who have been happily married for years, those who have been married for years not so happily, those whom are divorced, those with regrets, and those who married and never wanted anything more. You see all sides of marriage from good to bad and everything in between. Pillemer has interviewed hundreds of people and compiled their advice into five basic lessons for those looking for love, those thinking about marriage, and those who are wanting to stay married. Advice from those married just a few years to those married 70-plus years make this a comprehensive advice book for everyone.

After Pillemer wrote 30 LESSONS FOR LIVING, readers were asking for more advice related to marriage. Not only how to live a life without regrets, but have a long, rewarding marriage without regrets. He wanted this book to be different from other marriage manuals, sharing real experiences, regrets, mistakes, and joy. Everyone he interviewed was sixty-five or older, but not everyone had been in a life-long marriage.  Many were divorced, even multiple times, many were now widowed, but also many were still married and very happily at that.

Pillemer covered all areas of dating, love, marriage, parenting, crisis, and growing old together in his interviews. Each chapter focuses on one lesson and the advice pertaining to that lesson, for example in "Lessons for Finding a Mate", interviewees were in agreement with following that gut feeling. If you feel like something isn't right, seems off, or you have doubts, don't get married! Some wished they had followed that gut feeling and others were thankful that they had.

Most marriages will suffer through some type of crisis together...a death of a parent, job loss, or illness. One chapter is devoted to marriage being hard and how to get through those hard parts. One woman reminded readers to see beyond the wedding. It's just one day and will be blissfully happy, but you have to see beyond that to the dirty laundry, stack of dishes, crying babies, long hours, etc. Another interviewee encouraged married couples to make sure they are spending time with others who are positive. Hanging around couples with successful marriages does rub off on your marriage. Spend less time with those who are negative toward their spouse.

Overall, marriage can be an amazing experience if you find the perfect friend to share it with. Someone who is willing to work as hard as you are. If both of you wake up each morning, saying to yourself, "how can I make his/her day better?", then you will find happiness and respect in your marriage.  I appreciated all the great stories (happy and not so happy) and am sure the author had an enjoyable time visiting with all these great folks, hearing their stories, reminiscing with them, and feeling the love between the couples.

Romance

I have always been a romantic.  I love flowers and kisses and surprises and the whole gooshy works.  I believe in the fairy tale and being swept off my feet.  But, I also know the real life.  Cooking, cleaning, parenting, running to kids activities, jobs, bills, etc.  So, when a little romance can squeak into the reality of life I get completely giddy.  

I have always told Pat that I do not want flowers for Valentine's Day.  It is the most expensive time of year to buy flowers and for that amount of money you could buy something that lasts longer and I will appreciate more.  I'd rather have flowers other times of year and when I least expect them, like in the spring when you can buy a bouquet of tulips for $10 or a mixed bouquet for $4.99.  

This year, I have to brag a bit and say that Pat hit the romance nail on the head!  Thursday, while getting ready to sub, he brought me a latte that he made from the new milk frother he bought me.  While I was subbing at school, he made milk chocolate, white chocolate and dark chocolate covered strawberries, which we enjoyed with glasses of Moscato d'asti last night.  He got me flower......seeds, and wrote a sweet love note.  The love note itself would have been enough, but all these things together were amazing.  I was overwhelmed with emotion and absolutely blessed by the care and thought he put into my Valentine's Day.  

I try to make it special for our kids and him every year.  So, for Pat to take the time to make me feel special was truly such a blessing to me.  We had our annual Scavenger Hunt for the kids last night and I gave him some gifts as well.  The kids were excited to read the silly clues and hunt for their surprises ending with a surprise weekend getaway at a hotel.  It truly was a evening I will remember for a long time.

Every now and then, every girl needs a bit of romance!

Today I have a cold that has kicked me in the head.  I am exhausted, stuffed up, and can't get rid of my headache.  We had a early dismissal at school today and I felt guilty because I was just laying around and not doing anything with the kids.  Then, all of a sudden, our 8-year-old, Bennett came over to me, gave me a big hug and said, "You're the best Mom ever!"  Not feeling like the best-mom-ever, I replied, "Why?"  Bennett said, "Because you're MY mom!"  Now that just melted my heart and sent the tears gushing out of my eyes!  He said, "I love you, Mom."  I said, "I love you more!"  And then he said, "Yeah, you're probably right."

Nothing compares to being a mom.  Nothing compares to the love you feel for your child.  And nothing compares to that feeling when they melt your heart!  I love you, Benny!

Isn't that just amazing? That is how God loves me everyday, but I know I am not loving others in that way and I should be. This is such an excellent reminder for me, on Valentine's Day, for how I need to be loving others. Happy Valentine's Day and be sure that you tell those you love how special they are to you today and how much you love them!

10 Years

Ten years ago today I married the love of my life. Actually 11 years ago tomorrow I met the love of my life. At least for me, I knew immediately that he was "the one". From the day we met, we hardly spent a day apart and it has been that way ever since. I can't say it has been a smooth and easy 10 years of marriage, but I wouldn't change a moment of it. We have stuck together through trials and triumphs, have 3 beautiful children, a home full of love, and family and friends that regularly keep us in check. What more could a married couple hope for. Pat, thanks for all you have given me in this 10 years and I look forward what the future holds for us. Happy Anniversary!

Today I express my love for my husband and my children. Without you in my life, my heart would be empty. Thank you for loving me, even when I screw up. Lipstick Boost

Today I received a new lipstick. It was a color I had been interested in, but unwilling, until recently, to buy it for myself. But, I decided I deserved a new lipstick and it arrived today! I have a cold and am feeling a little crappy (for lack of a better word), but I opened up my new lipstick, tried it on, and "poof" I felt better. What I Love

Lately I have been thinking about things that I LOVE! The things that just bring joy to my life. I think it is easy to think about the things we hate (house cleaning, smoking) and spend our time focusing on them. Instead, I thought it would be fun really think about those things I LOVE and try to list them and see if anyone else loves the same things I do! Then on those days when I am feeling down, I can refer to my list and pick something on it to pick me back up!
