Children's Book Review: A Flag for the Flying Dragon By Carole P Roman

A FLAG FOR THE FLYING DRAGON
A Captain No Beard Story

By: Carole P Roman

Published: March 27, 2015

Publisher: CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform

Fiction

Alexander and his friends are back on their pirate ship the Flying Dragon ready for another imaginative adventure. Captain No Beard really wishes his ship had a flag, but he hasn't found the right one yet. One of his many duties of being Captain of a ship is finding the perfect flag, along with watching over his crew. He is proud to watch each of his crew members taking pride in their jobs. Everyone has to work together as a team to stay safe on his ship. When Zachary, the new baby crew member joins them, he begins to interfere with everyone else's jobs. But finding the right job for Zachary seems to be difficult because he is too young. Captain No Beard needs to find a job for him before his whole crew becomes upset.

Carole P Roman has found another fun adventure for this group of friends full of imagination and with another life lesson on including everyone in the fun and being a team. Kids will be able to identify with Zachary feeling left out as well as the rest of the crew not wanting Zachary to "mess up" their jobs.

This is another hit in the Captain No Beard series. Roman seems to be able to easily write out these stories and kids will continue to read them as fast as she can write them. This is a great series to add to your library!

The group of friends on board The Flying Dragon are back to help each other out again in the next Captain No Beard Story. Fribbet the Frog has gone off to be by himself because his is upset. After his friends finally find him and with some coaxing, Fribbet finally decides to share what is bothering him. He reveals that he is a bit frustrated having to share his toys and his parents with 21 new baby brothers and sisters.

Once his friends realize Fribbet's problem, they listen, reassure him, and offer suggestions. The crew members share the value of friendship and the reminder that friends are always there for each other.

This addition to the Captain No Beard series of books is a wonderful way to share a love of imagination, the joy of friendships, and the love between siblings. I recommend this book and the whole series for lower elementary readers. To see my other Captain No Beard book reviews, click HERE, HERE, and HERE.

Children's Book Review: Captain No Beard and the Aurora Borealis By Carole P Roman

CAPTAIN NO BEARD AND THE AURORA BOREALIS

A Captain No Beard Story
Volume 7

By: Carole P Roman

Published: September 23, 2014

Publisher: CreateSpace

Fiction

Roman is back with her seventh installment of her imaginative series, CAPTAIN NO BEARD. This series of stories shows children with vivid imaginations and taking pretend play to the ultimate by creating tales set on a pirate ship. Each of her stories teaches a lesson with this one taking the children on a trip following the North Star. In it, Captain No Beard wants to bring the fascinating light and color show of the Aurora Borealis home to watch forever. The rest of his crew teach him that he can't just steal things he wants, even if it is to just borrow it for awhile.  His crew also reminds him of why the aurora borealis is so special and why he can't bring it home. His friends find a way to have their own colorful show at home.

Roman's books never disappoint and this would make a wonderful series to add to your home library. The illustrations tell the story as much as the words do with funny facial expressions and characterizations. This is another great addition to the Captain No Beard series. Our kids were such big fans of the "Backyardigans" TV series on Nickelodeon and this book reminds of that show and the great fun that was had by creating stories with their imagination.

Children's Book Review: The Treasure of Snake Island By Carole P Roman

THE TREASURE OF SNAKE ISLAND
A Captain No Beard Story

By: Carole P Roman

Published: January 30, 2014

Publisher: CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform

Fiction

Carole P Roman brings readers the fifth in the Captain No Beard series with THE TREASURE OF SNAKE ISLAND. Like in the other books, Alexander and his group of friends are pretending they are part of a pirate ship. In this book, Polly sounds a warning she learned from a book while they are watching the sun rise, "Red sky at night, sailor's delight. Red sky in the morning, sailors warning," says Polly.  All the shipmates become concerned and wonder where Polly learned such a thing. "In a book," Polly states. As the crew battles through a storm, they question Polly about books. After finding a map, they realize there is treasure to be found on Snake Island. Will they make it to Snake Island and find a treasure? You will have to read it to find out.

As always, Roman's books are creative, fun, and impart a lesson for kids. By reading this book, you can remind your child of the joy of reading. The best part of reading books is that there is a book out there for everyone to enjoy. Share this book and lots of books with your kids.

Children's Book Review: The Crew Goes Coconuts By Carole P Roman

THE CREW GOES COCONUTS
A Captain No Beard Story
Volume 6

By: Carole P Roman

Published: May 15, 2014

Publisher: CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform

This is my first Captain No Beard story and I am "Hooked".  These are highly engaging, funny, and well-written stories featuring a wonderful child's imagination.  Each story has a message and this particular one deals with bullying.

All the animals are ganging up on Matie the goat because she is different.  They find ways to point out her different looks and the animals get everyone to join in with picking on her.  Matie becomes very upset until Captain No Beard has just the idea to shine the light on everyone's differences.

Children will find the illustrations engaging and the animals funny.  These books will also encourage your child to have a vivid imagination and maybe even create their own Captain No Beard scenarios. To see all the books in the Captain No Beard series, click HERE.
