Birds of Spring

We live in town, but at the edge of town, with a cornfield in our backyard.  Luckily, we still get quite a few birds on our feeders.  With our early spring like weather, I have been enjoying the windows being open and hearing the birds singing.  One of my favorites is the Cardinal's song. 

We have both a male and female cardinal who are hanging out at our feeders and it is so fun to watch them and listen to them sing to each other. 

I enjoy watching the Robins dig up worms and bugs from the yard.  I am hoping for another nest in our yard this year!

Our feeders are also full of house sparrows.  They aren't the prettiest bird, but they are so much fun to watch as they play and eat at the feeders.

I don't know if I will ever attract the birds that my parents have at their farm.....bluebirds, blue jays, wrens, orioles, woodpeckers, indigo buntings, scarlet tanagers, and finches.  But, I will definitely keep the ones that visit with full bellies!

Things I Love...

This is my feature where I get to share something that I just love. Since you are my friends, I like sharing things I love with others. It could be anything from a new product, food, recipe, song, image, to a person and everything in between. This will be something I am completely doing on my own, without pressure or compensation from a company, author, PR/Marketing firm, friend, business owner, etc. This will just be something that makes me happy and I want to share it with you. Enjoy some love!

Today's love is............................Spring! 
 
I am waiting and waiting for spring to get here.  Only 10 more days until the calendar says spring even though I know Mother Nature doesn't always work by that calendar.  I am so anxious for the days to be sunnier, for that smell of spring in the air, to see the buds on all the trees and most of all....to see my flowers start to peek through the brown ground.  I love spotting my crocus, daffodils, and tulips stretching up through the ground.  It reminds me that warm days are coming and soon all the snow and cold will be a memory.
 
This week I received my shipment of daffodils from the American Cancer Society.  You buy bundles of them to support their American Cancer Society foundation and research and I do it every year.  I place some in the fridge and some on the table so I can extend their time with me as long as possible.  This week I also put out all my spring decor.  I love placing all my bunnies and lambs and other spring decor out around the house.  Soon I will be planning our oldest son's 11th birthday and finding goodies for the kids' Easter baskets.  So many things to LOVE about Spring!

Spring Is Here!

Spring arrived on Saturday, but in our area, we awoke to 2 inches of snow on the ground.  Thankfully it was gone by Sunday and the temperatures have warmed back up again today and the sun is shining!

Flowers and Daughters

Yesterday I finally had a chance to go outside and work in my flower beds and plant some of the flowers I had bought the week before. My 3 yr old daughter was so excited as she had been asking me every day since we had bought them together when we could plant them. She picked out some pink ones, of course. We had such a good time outside digging in the dirt and watering the flowers together. While I was out there, I had one of those moments where I realized I had dreamed about this. Not literally, but I always wanted a girl and had imagined doing things like this with her as my mom had done with me. It was just a special moment for me. I know there will be lots of moments like these in our future. I am just so thankful that God gave me this beautiful girl to raise. Saturday we will have the chance to get her brothers involved when we plant our vegetable garden. I just cherish these family times and I hope you can take the time to connect with your children like this too. I know I need to do it more often.

My mom has a beautiful flower garden that she spends hours tending. I found this quote and I keep it taped to the mirror in my bathroom...

All winter long, 

I envision what beautiful blooms I'll have...

I can even smell them, 

their scents as wonderful as in my mother's garden.

So, after the long hard winter, spring is finally here. Go out, plant and smell some flowers.
