What I Learned from Psalms Chapters 101 to 150 - Reading the Bible in 90 Days

As you know I have started reading the Bible. I have 90 days to complete it and I am reading it with hundreds (1200+ to be exact) of other women. Each week (and even day to day) we check-in with each other on our progress, to pray for each other, and to share our thoughts. How cool is that?


So, I thought I would take each Book of the Bible and share my thoughts, verses, or people that stood out or spoke to me on that particular day. I have been doing most of my reading in the mornings reading whenever I can! The key is to get it done. If you get behind, you keep at it....catching up in chunks each day. The readings have been manageable and I am still praying it stays that way for me. I am currently several days behind schedule, but, gradually, I am catching up.

Psalm 103:8 The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love.  Good, because too often, I need his compassion, understanding and love!

Psalm 106:1/107:1/118:1 Praise to the Lord. Give thanks to the Lord , for he is good; his love endures forever.

Psalm 111:2-3 Great are the works of the Lord; they are pondered by all who delight in them. Glorious and majestic are his deeds, and his righteousness endures forever.

Psalm 112:1 Praise the Lord. Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who finds great delight in his commands.

Psalm 113:2-3 Let the name of the Lord be praised, both now and forevermore. From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets, the name of the Lord is to be praised.

Psalm 118:26, 28-29 Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. From the house of the Lord we bless you.  You are my God, and I will give you thanks; you are my God, and I will exalt you. Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, his loves endures forever.

Psalm 119:105,114 Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path. You are my refuge and my shield; I have put my hope in your word.

Psalm 121: 1-2 I lift up my eyes to the hills - where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.

Psalm 130:5 I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in his word I put my hope.

Psalm 136 - A beautiful Psalm, perfect for praising the Lord and all he has done.

Psalm 139:13-16 For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.  My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, and your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. If you have any doubt that you are a child of God, read these verses again and again!

Psalm 142:1-3 I cry aloud to the Lord; I lift up my voice to the Lord for mercy. I pour out my complaint before him; before him I tell my trouble. When my spirit grows faint within me, it is you who know my way.

Psalm 143:8 Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul. A favorite of mine.

Psalm 146 - God is in control, not us or other people.  This Psalm reminds us of that.

Psalm 148 - Praising the Lord for all of creation!

Psalm 150:6 Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord.

AMEN!

I have thoroughly enjoyed reading the Book of Psalms.  Reading them brought a calmness to my day.  Now that my favorites have been marked, I look forward to reading them again and again as troubles arise, on days I need to be reminded of his love, and on days where I am praising His greatness!

Now on to Proverbs......

Psalm 56:3-4 When I am afraid, I will trust in you. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I will not be afraid. What can mortal man do to me?

Psalm 62:1-2 My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.

Psalm 67:1-2 May God be gracious to us and bless us and make his face shine upon us, that your ways may be known on earth, your salvation among all nations.  This was our benediction at church for many Sundays.  How can you not leave church with a smile after that blessing????
 
Psalm 69:28 May they be blotted out of the book of life and not be listed with the righteous.  I can't imagine a worse fate.  I'm gonna do my darndest to keep my name in the book of life!
 
Psalm 86:11-12 Teach me your way, O Lord, and I will walk in your truth; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name. I will praise you, O Lord my God, with all my heart, I will glorify your name forever.  What a perfect prayer to start my day with.
 
Psalm 91:1-2 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.
 
Psalm 95:1-7  I think every worship service should open with these verses. 
 
Psalm 100 - Again, another wonderful blessing for His people. 
 
There is SO MUCH good stuff in Psalms!  I still have 50 more chapters to go.  I really tried to focus on those verses that made me stop during my reading.  Those verses that just jumped out and made me take a moment to think, to reflect, or pray, .  I hope these verses bless you today!

Psalm 2:12 ....Blessed are all who take refuge in him.
 
Psalm 7:14-15 He who is pregnant with evil and conceives trouble gives birth to disillusionment.  He who digs a hole and scoops it out falls into the pit he has made.  What a vivid description for those who hurt others. 
 
Psalm 9: 9-10 The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in time of trouble.  Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you.
 
Psalm 16:1 Keep me safe, O God, for in your I take refuge.
 
Psalm 18:1-2, 6, 28-30  I love you, O Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.  In my distress I called to the Lord; I cried to my God for help.  From his temple  he heard my voice; my cry came before him, into his ears.  You, O Lord, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light. With your help I can advance against a troop; with my God I can scale a wall.  As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the Lord is flawless.  He is a shield for all who take refuge in him.
 
Psalm 22:1 My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?  Aren't these the same words Jesus says from the cross?  I don't think it is a coincidence that David said these words and then they are repeated by Jesus.
 
Psalm 23 No description needed. 
 
Psalm 25:4-5  Show me your ways, O Lord, teach me your paths; guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior.
 
Psalm 27: 1,4,14  The Lord is my light and my salvation - whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life - of whom shall I be afraid?  One thing I ask of the Lord, this is what I seek; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple.  Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.
 
Psalm 28:7 The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him and I am helped.  My heart leaps for joy and I will give that to him in song.
 
Psalm 30:4-5  Sing to the Lord, you saints of his; praise his holy name. For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may remain for a night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.
 
Psalm 32:8  I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you.
 
Psalm 33:20-22 We wait in hope for the Lord; he is our help and our shield. In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. May your unfailing love rest upon us, O Lord, even as we put our hope in you.
 
Psalm 34:12-14,16  Whoever of you loves life and desires to see many good days, keep your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking lies. Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it. The face of the Lord is against those who do evil, to cut off the memory of them from the earth. 
I can't imagine a worse fate - to have my memory removed from God's.
 
Psalm 37:4 Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart.
 
Psalm 46:1,10 God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Be still and know that I am God.  I LOVE these 2 verses!
 
Psalm 49:15 But God will redeem my life from the grave; he will surely take me to himself.  My greatest hope is that I will see Him and be redeemed.
 
There is SO MUCH good stuff in Psalms!  I still have 100 more chapters to go.  I really tried to focus on those verses that made me stop during my reading.  Those verses that just jumped out and made me take a moment to think, to reflect, or pray, .  I hope these verses bless you today!

Things I Love....In the Kitchen - Mimosa

Things I Love...


This is my feature where I get to share something that I just love. Since you are my friends, I like sharing things I love with others. It could be anything from a new product, food, recipe, song, image, to a person and everything in between. This will be something I am completely doing on my own, without pressure or compensation from a company, author, PR/Marketing firm, friend, business owner, etc. This will just be something that makes me happy and I want to share it with you. Enjoy some love!

From Betty's Crockers recipe for Peachy Mimosas

I found a recipe on Betty Crocker's website for Peachy Mimosas.  But, one of the ingredients was Peach Nectar.  I looked all over for peach nectar and couldn't find it.  I wanted to find something that would give it that extra special taste rather than just orange juice and champagne, but couldn't find the nectar.  If someone knows where to find it, please let me know!!!!!

So, I made up my own version of mimosas and served them to some friends who came over for breakfast.  They were really delicious and can be made non-alcoholic, which is the way I made them.

ORANGE MANGO MIMOSAS

1, 2 Quart Pitcher

1 bottle of Sparkling White Grape Juice (or Champagne)
1, 64 oz container of pulp free Orange Juice
1, 15.2 oz container of Naked 100 % Juice Smoothie, Might Mango

I poured 3/4 of the bottle of white grape juice, half the container of oj, and half the container of the Mighty Mango smoothie into the pitcher with some ice.  I stirred it up and served it.  I would say this was probably around 6-8 servings depending on the size of the glass.  I served ours in big wine glasses.  The smoothie gave it a nice mango flavor and some extra nutrients. The mimosas were a nice treat with our breakfast and conversation.....even if they were alcohol free.

What I Learned from Job - Reading the Bible in 90 Days

So, I thought I would take each Book of the Bible and share my thoughts, verses, or people that stood out or spoke to me on that particular day. The readings have been manageable and I am still praying it stays that way for me. I am currently several days behind schedule, but, gradually, I am catching up. I am learning so much am really excited about reading Psalms and Proverbs next.

So, here are my thoughts from the Book of Job:
 
Job 1:21-22 In all his suffering, Job NEVER asked "Why God?" "Why me?" or complained after all the pain and destruction in his life.  Our society is so full of complaint and "why me?" questions that it was such a humbling reminder that God has a plan and a reason - and that reason may just be to bring you back to Him.
 
Job 6:24 Teach me, and I will be quiet; show me where I have been wrong.
 
Job was so full of beautiful poetic verse like the following:
Job 11:13-18
Yet if you devote your heart to him and stretch out your hands to him,
if you put away the sin that is in your hand and allow no evil to dwell in your tent,
then you will lift up your face without shame, you will stand firm and without fear.
You will surely forget your trouble, recalling it only as waters gone by.
Life will be brighter than noonday, and darkness will become like morning.
You will be secure, because there is hope, you will look about you and take rest in safety.
 
Job 16:2-3 I have heard many things like these, miserable comforters are you all!  Will your long-winded speeches never end? What ails you that you keep on arguing?  You can hear Job's frustration with his friends in these verses.  Haven't we all been in situations like this....it just goes on and on....I want to remember these words for just that occasion! :)
 
Job 19: 25-27 I know that my Redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand upon the earth. And after my skin has been destroyed, yet in my flesh I will see God; I myself will see him with my own eyes - I, and not another. How my heart years within me!  I already had these verses marked in my Bible.  I am not sure when or how I came across them before, but it is such a calming verse and beautifully said. 
 
Job 42:2-3 I know that you can do all things; no plan of yours can be thwarted.  You asked, Who is this that obscures my counsel without knowledge? Surely I spoke of things I did not understand, things too wonderful for me to know. Job's reply to the Lord here is so honest and humbling. 
 
Job 42:10 After Job had prayed for his friends, the Lord made him prosperous again and gave him twice as much as he had before. Even though Job's friends accused him and rebuked him for doing wrong, Job still forgave them and prayed for them.  Not an easy task.  I too have been accused of wrongdoing by a friend and was innocent.  Today, praying for that friend has lifted a weight off of my shoulders that I had been carrying for too long.
 
I loved the poetic rhythm of the Book of Job.  I was amazed at all Job had suffered.  Some I knew before hand, but I had never read it to that depth before.  Reading the Bible in 90 days has certainly opened my eyes and my heart to God's wonderful lessons for all of us.
 
Now on to Psalms.......

So, here are my thoughts from the Books of  Ezra, Nehemiah, and Esther:

Ezra 9:34 After hearing about the sins commited by the people of Israel, Ezra sat there appalled. If only more of us who be appalled at the sins being committed today in our world rather than ignoring it or placating others, what a different world it would be.

Nehemiah 4:16-18 I thought it was interesting how half of them worked on the wall and the other half stood guard.  They all united to help one another.  Some even did their work with one hand and a sword in the other.  It is important for all Christians to come together to do God's work and when we face adversity, we may need others to back us up.

Nehemiah 6:16 When all our enemies heard about this, all the surrounding nations were afraid and lost their self-confidence, because they realized that this work had been done with the help of our God.

Nehemiah 9:5-6 Blessed be your glorious name, and may it be exalted above all blessing and praise. You alone are the Lord. You made the heavens, even the highest heavens, and all their starry host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them. You give life to everything, and the multitudes of heaven worship you.

Nehemiah 9:31 But in your great mercy you did not put an end to them or abandom them, for you are a gracious and merciful God.

Esther
I just loved reading the Book of Esther.  Esther was so courageous and had such a strong faith in God to step out and right the wrongs.  Most of us would not have been that determined and strong. I was also remembering the VeggieTale's version of Esther while reading it.  Our kids loved the movie ESTHER, and reading this made me want to watch it again.  What an awesome lesson she gives to all of us.

Now on to the Book of Job.......................
